Matt & Sarah Watts
Matt & Sarah are both locals who grew up in Matakana. Matt did his apprenticeship at New World Warkworth and qualified at the age of 17. Sarah and Matt travelled the world before settling in Australia, where Matt managed a butchery in Brisbane before heading to WA to work on the mines. It wasn't until they both got wind of the Matakana Butchery coming up for sale in 2013 that they considered coming back to plant roots in their home town. Matt now boasts over 20 years experience in the industry, 14 years homekill processing experience and a life long passion for producing quality meat to the community.
Matt’s favorite meat to cook - Just a well marbled steak
Chris
Chris became qualified as a butcher in 2010, but he’s been in the industry since he was fifteen. He joined our team in 2020 and has brought years of experience with him. Over the years, Chris has worked at a number of stores around the Auckland region; including as a butchery manager at various New World and PAK'nSAVE stores.
Chris's favourite thing to cook - Chris loves anything that’s slow-cooked, especially American BBQ style.
Scotty
Scotty, a Warkworth local, worked at Warkworth New World as a cabinet boy before starting his apprenticeship in 2016, becoming qualified in 2020. Prior to completing his butchery apprenticeship, Scotty studied culinary arts at AUT. Scotty joined us in 2021 to learn more about the processing of homekill as a way to develop his skill-set. This means Scotty brings a unique skill-set to our team in both meat-cuts and how they're cooked.
Scotty's favourite thing to cook - pork belly, oven roasted cooked at 160º and finished off at 200º
Tara
Tara, another Warkworth local, worked at a local homekill processing facility as a meat packer before completing her apprenticeship in “year”. Tara joined our team in 2019, and brought with her a vast amount of knowledge around homekill processing; but she wanted to learn the retail side of butchering. Tara now has over “year” experience in the industry; “years” of homekill processing and seven in retail.
Tara’s favourite thing to cook - Anything in the slow cooker!
Bruce
Bruce is a well known local who has over 53 years experience in the industry. Locals might recognise him as one of the previous owners of Stubs Butchery in Warkworth and more recently the butchery manager at Warkworth New World. In 2020 Bruce decided it was time to retire and left New World, only to return to butchering with us two years later!
Bruce's favorite meat to cook - He can't go past a nice rolled pork shoulder.
Mitchell
You might have noticed over the past year our smiley mitchell serving you. Mitchell joined us as an after-school clean up boy in 2024 and has recently left school to complete his butchery apprenticeship with us - how exciting!
